Oral hygiene is essential to prevent tooth decay, bad breath, and gum disease. Use a soft brush and don’t scrub too hard so you won’t damage the enamel and irritate your gums. Brush your tongue gently as well to remove the plaque, which can cause bad breath. It is recommended that you replace your toothbrush every three months or when the bristles are frayed already.

Flossing is an essential part of tooth and gum care. It helps with oral hygiene by removing the bacteria and food particles in between your teeth, which cannot be reached by your toothbrush. This helps in preventing gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and periodontitis (a gum infection that causes the shrinkage of the gums and loosening of the teeth).

This is recommended, especially if you are wearing braces. Don’t use this as a substitute for brushing and flossing. Use rinses as a complement to your oral hygiene to reduce plaque, boost your fresh breath’s longevity and make your mouth feel squeaky clean.

  1. Diet 

To promote strong, healthy teeth, incorporate foods rich in calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin C in your diet. Try to avoid processed foods, sugary and starchy foods as these can promote the growth of plaque-bacteria in your teeth. If your diet consists of these foods, you will have a huge chance of experiencing tooth decay even if you brush and floss regularly.

  1. Visit the dentist

There is no need to be scared of dentists—they are there to help you! A checkup is nothing to be anxious of and it should keep your fears at bay because you will be able to know what’s going on in your mouth. The dentist is an important partner in maintaining your oral health because he or she can help keep tooth stains under control and identify oral hygiene issues before any serious problems arise.

Your teeth need lots of care and attention to maintain their health. Follow a regular oral hygiene routine at home. Don’t neglect brushing and flossing because even if you have a dentist helping you, serious problems like cavities or, worse, oral cancer may arise.
