Just recently ASUS Philippines has released their newest ZenFone units, the ZenFone 3. The new mobile phones has exceeded last year’s ZenFone 2 as it offers full aluminium uni-body. Check out my full review on ASUS ZenFone 3 Z017D 5.2” below.
Inside the box are:
- The unit (ZenFone 3 5.2”)
- USB Cable Type C
- AC Adapter
- Sim Ejector
The new ZenFone 3 Z017D is really comparable to their last mobile phone series, the ZenFone 2, though they have given a glimpse of what’s coming on the next collection for 2016 as they released ZenFone Zoom that has an aluminium side and a leather back case. ASUS ZenFone Zoom is a very elegant and sophisticated looking phone that sets the bar for the coming third generation mobile phone to release.
The ZenFone 3 Z017D have an aluminium body, a corning gorilla glass on its front and back, have a finger print sensor at the back, 8MP front camera and 16MP rear camera. I love the corning gorilla glass in front, but not so fan of the back because it easily slips on my hand and thankfully I got a case so it won’t slip my hands anymore. I also love the finger print sensor at the back because it’s not square like the other phone and you don’t need to wipe it over and over to have your finger be scanned.
The Display, User Interface and Apps
The ZenFone 3’s display is a 1920 x 1080 Super IPS+ and have Gorilla Glass 3 installed. What I love about the display is that it’s very bright even if you put it on a low brightness and you can also adjust it to vivid or bluelight protection, though they have this on the
ir ZenFone 2 series.
The UI (user interface) is very responsive and does not lag. There is also pre-installed games: Need for Speed and the Sims. Though I have problem reloading the Need for Speed game to try the game genie so, I opted to try it using the Sims. Also pre-installed app are: Facebook, Instagram, Beauty Plus, Amazon Kindle and Puffin Browser.
The ZenFone 3’s audio is very adjustable depending on the ambiance you have. Like if you are outdoor you can set it into outdoor, but you can also manually change the treble and equalizer. You can also choose from Movie, Gaming, Music or Vocal.
ZenFone 3 Z017D have a 2600 mAh non-removable battery. I usually charged my previous phone almost 3x a day, but this one I charged it up once a day, though charging takes up to an hour. I also did a battery test using Antutu Battery Test App and it scored: 7,164. I started the test around 10:07 P.M. with 64% battery and ended it at 12:13 A.M. with 23% battery.
I also did benchmarking on ASUS ZenFone 3 with Antutu Benchmarking version 6.2.1 and it scored: 62,678. ZenFone 3 is not lagging when tested with games and videos and we also tested its multi-touch and it scored 10 when I touched it with 10 fingers.
The Pixel Master and Sample Photos
ASUS ZenFone 3 ZE520KL have 8MP Front Pixel Master and 16MP Pixel Camera with dual tone flash. I was very attached with my last phone, the ZenFone Zoom since it’s a miniature DSLR Camera which gives me a very good shoot in every photo I take. It became my buddy every time I need a camera, but when I started using ZenFone 3, I was just really mesmerize on the camera because you can take photos without using the manual mode on a low light and still it’s not too grainy. If you don’t believe it, check out the sample photo’s below.

The Asus experience
I’ve been using the ZenFone 3 Z017D for 8 days now and I am so in love with the camera! It’s really new for me and very different from the previous ZenFone I’ve used. Though I miss my 128 GB ZenFone Zoom since ZenFone 3 Z017D is only 64 GB (you can choose from 32GB and 64GB), but I love the sleekness and the sophistication of the phone. What I am so worried about is that it is so slippery when used without case, so if you are planning to buy be sure to buy your case to prevent from damaging its beauty. The battery is ok for me though I am so used to ZenFone Zoom’s fast charging feature, but the battery can last for 3 days if you are not using data or wi-fi. Kweky, my youngest loves the new feature, Game Genie because he can video blog about the game and he can directly upload it on YouTube.
The final question is always, would you recommend it to your readers? I think ASUS gave a really good revamp from their previous mobile phone series, the ZenFone 2. They have given the people a much sophisticated and sleek mobile phone that is mid-level when it comes to price. Is the price P16,995 worth it for a mid-level phone? I think so, they have upgraded aesthetically, the audio is so good, the new feature game genie is very useful for game geeks, they have maintain their ZenEar which I really love. Some are doubting because they think it is over priced, but when you really feel and use the phone you can really tell your self that it is worth it.
