DIY Decorations: Mason Jar

The task of finding your first condominium can be very challenging especially if your budget is limited. So let’s say you found condominiums for sale in Cubao and got to buy a unit, the next thing you will think about is how to decorate the interior to that will fit your taste and personality. It’s already a given that a condo unit has been designed by an architect and his team of designers and renovating is limited to what the management will allow you to. But that doesn’t mean you have to go through the drag of hauling furniture from one place to another or painting the floor and getting stuck in the corner while waiting for the paint to dry. You can totally customize your place by activating your creativity and buying a couple of Mason jars. Here are some suggestions on how to spice up your Mason jars as home decorations to spice up your own place or as kid-friendly party ornaments:

Painted Mason Jar Vase

You need a Mason jar and acrylic paint in the color of your choice. Pour acrylic paint in the jar until the paint is about half an inch thick at the bottom. Turn the jar upside down and slowly let the paint run down until the entire inside of the jar is covered with paint. Then, still upside down, put the jar on a newspaper or thick cardboard so the excess paint can drip out. You can also do this with spray paint and just spray the inside of the jar until you’re happy with the opacity of the color.

This is perfect especially if you are having a party with your friends or hosting a children’s party. Simply fill Mason jars with candies of all kinds, cookies, and small cakes then arrange them on a table.

Mini Terrarium

Fill up half of the jar with some rocks, activated charcoal (to keep the water fresh), and soil. Then carefully arrange the plants of your choice inside the jar before screwing the lid in place. If you want a terrarium with a more summer-y vibe, you can replace the soil and plants with sand and beach finds like sea shells, dried up starfish, driftwood.

Picture Frames

Simply cut your picture to fit then slip it into the jar. You can add glitter or sequins or even shells to add a more creative touch.

Office Supply Organizer

You need about five Mason jars for this one. Simply lie the jars on their side then hot glue them together.

Snow Globe

Choose a small figurine or figurines for your globe. Then glue it on the center of the jar’s lid using water resistant glue. Fill the jar with water almost to the top then pour glitter as much as you want. Apply some glue on the outer rims of the lid then place it back on the jar. Wait for a few moments or until glue is dry. Turn the jar upside down and watch the glitter fall like snow on the figurine. If you want to make it into a party decoration, simply switch out the Christmas-themed figurines for small toys. These will also be good as party giveaways.

You can also replace the Christmas ornaments with a figurine of your choosing. That can be used in a party or an event that has a theme. Simply, change the figurine and put glitters, sand, Styrofoam balls or anything you want. Mix and match the decors to fit your desired theme.

Who knew that with a bit of creativity and a couple of Mason jars you can transform your condo’s interior to your liking? And they’re not only good as house ornaments; you can also give them as gifts to a friend or to your family as well.
