Cervical Cancer Awareness using your Camel Toe Photo

I just saw this photo on Facebook and it really caught my eye, women taking photos of their Camel Toe with their tight leggings. This is their way to promote Cervical Cancer Awareness to everyone. I see it as very informative but I know a lot people will criticize since you will take photo of your Camel Toe.

This photo is not mine.

Just to give you more information about Cervical Cancer, I have research about it, so I check the ever reliable Wikipedia.
Cervical cancer is a cancer arising from the cervix. It is due to the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Early on there are typically no symptoms.

Symptoms may include:
– abnormal vaginal bleeding
pelvic pain
– pain during sexual intercourse

What are the risk factors?

  1. smoking
  2. a weak immune system
  3. birth control pills
  4. starting sex at a young age
  5. having many sexual partners

** As per Wikipedia this risk factors are less important.

Information’s from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cervical_cancer

Reading all the symptoms I find it all pertinent to me and the risk factors I check numbers 2, 3 and 4. I was diagnosed with Bone Cancer last year and they told me that Bone Cancer is either primary or secondary. Primary bone cancer is started at the bone itself and the secondary is started somewhere else. We cannot do surgery since my tumor is near the spine, it will affect my motor skills or worst I really cannot walk anymore. So I decided not to take it off. I love my family more than myself; I wanted to accompany my kids at school and to run with them so that is a very tough decision for me. The doctors just perform Radiation Therapy and also we do Rehab Therapy for my slipped disk and my arthritis (I know you won’t believe it, and by the way I am only 26 years old). I finished all my therapies just early this year and I promise myself to never go back to the doctor again. It cost us a lot of money and we are not affluent. I know I will survive this “gift” from God, since I know he’s always on my side and my priority is for my kids to have a good life and to send them to a good school. I was really hesitant to post this on my blog since I don’t want others to pity me but I did it because I want to promote awareness that cancer can strike at anybody at any age. By the way, I was checked this year by my OB-gyne about the symptoms I have and it was ruled out as Chronic Cervicitis, I think I got it from my radiation therapy. But after taking meds and doing the entire necessary lab test. I am still bleeding every time I got exhausted and tired and all the symptoms are still present and I think I have Cervical Cancer since my Oncologist ruled out that I got my Bone Cancer from an existing condition.

You may think that I am so naïve about not consulting a doctor, but I think that God is always by my side to protect me from harm and I am giving myself to him and let him decide about my fate. I really just want to enjoy the time with my Chinito Boy and my kids. I don’t want them to suffer the way they suffer when I was first diagnosed with cancer. I think I’ll be better with God’s grace and with my faith. I recommend to all mommies and ladies out there who is sexually active to go to their OB-gyne to do pap-smear at least every six (6) months and be vaccinated with anti-cervical cancer vaccine. Would you do the Camel toe photo awareness?

  1. I admire your bravery and your faith.

I had a pap smear (my first!) early this year as part of a typical annual physical exam with our old health card provided but I never got the results, and I didn’t actively follow up either. I should be more mindful. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. I saw this commercial on TV with Janella Salvador and her mom promoting Cervical Cancer awareness. Is it okay to get Cervatix shots even if we`re still teens? Janella was only 15 in that commercial. I don`t know if she really got shots. She`s 16 now like me. Thank you for the information. I hope and pray that you`ll be strong.

  3. Uhm, I find that awkward. The camel toe selfie, I mean. Oh well.

That aside, I gotta say I admire your fortitude in facing the big CA so early in life. I mean, you’re even younger than me (by a coupla years) and you’ve already been through so much and here you are! We’ve never met before and I can only base my impression on what I see here on your blog, but you seem like a happy and optimistic person. Kudos for that and may God heal you completely soon!

  4. I feel you, I don’t have cancer but I have psoriasis so I always need to go to hospital for check-up, labtest and phototherapy. I don’t like going to hospital because I’m spending almost half of my day. I’m planning to have cervical vaccine pero nakaklimutan ko itanung lagi if ok lang even I’m taking meds for psor.

    Stay positive 🙂

  5. I admire your faith and courage! I honestly don’t know how I’d handle it if I go through what you went through. 🙁 I always get a pap smear from my OB, but I haven’t been vaccinated for cervical cancer protection. I’ll keep that in mind when I visit my OB again.

  6. i had my pap smear before.. regular pa nga yung checkup ko. but recently, nakakalimutan ko na to. now i have to sched an appointment with my dr. 😀 i’ll pray for you mommy arcee! and yes, by God’s grace you will be healed. 🙂

  7. Hi Arcee! Your courage and strength amid your trials are something to admire. I have considered getting the vaccine and having pap smear. The latter is something I still have to prepare for mentally, I am scared how it might go (sorry I know it compares nothing to what you are going through). As for the camel toe challenge, I am not sure if I am up for the task but I will definitely share information on cervical cancer.

  8. Mommy Arci, you are a born survivor! I hope everything goes fine with you. Michi! I have psoriasis too but mild and I think it was caused by my weak immunity. I just wish all us moms be blessed with better health and longer lives so we can get to see our kids grow up and be happy with their own families.

  9. I don’t like this campaign mommy. Or at least the picture they wanted to trend. The first time I saw this, I didn’t read the caption and I though some pervert guy with weird fetish posted this. But I agree that cervical cancer is a growing concern that’s best handled by prevention instead of cure.

  10. The Camel Toe Challenge is extremely awkward IMHO. Instead of promoting awareness it might just attract criticism towards the people posting them. I think there are other more effective ways to do it.

I admire your strength Arcee, and I pray you continue to heal. Posting this article reminded us all that we have to take care of ourselves and get ahead of Cervical Cancer, I’ll make it a point to pay my OB a visit soon.

  11. I’m all for Cervical Cancer awareness, but I’m not too hot on the camel toe photo thing. I’ve gotten shots for this already. I’ve lost several relatives to cancer, so I’m not taking any chances.

Praying for good health and endless strength for you. Your faith is so admirable. Sending you a huge virtual hug!

  12. Di ko betyang camel toe challenge. Ang sagwa eh hehehehe. We have cancer history in the family. I am scared that sooner or later, I’ll find out na ako ang pinakaswerteng nagmana ng cancer. Hahaha. Thank you for the reminder, I’ll doi my best to have vaccines to at least prevent it. Hayy..

  13. I’m all for raising awareness about cervical cancer but I don’t think I can do the camel toe selfie. I believe there are other ways to get the word out there. I admire your strength though from getting past bone cancer, among other things. Keep going strong! And yeah, it really is very important to have a check up every so often.

  14. I admire you sis! Everything is possible with the power of our Healer. Keep the faith!
As for the cervical cancer, good thing I had vaccine already, but need to do the pap smear na. The camel toe phote is awkward for me too..hihi…:-D
