BEST Center-FIBA 3-on-3 “BEST-ketball” tournament

The Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training (BEST) Center had just conducted the first-ever BEST Center-FIBA 3-on-3 Tournament, wherein a total of 128 teams across Luzon battled out in the tournament that was held last November 15, 2015 at the Ateneo College Covered Courts, from 8am to 5pm.

Sponsoring the tournament was Milo Ready-to-Drink. Also supporting the event were Freego and Rain or Shine. The BEST Center-FIBA 3-on-3 is sanctioned by the International Basketball Organization or Fédération Internationale de Basket-bal (FIBA), which organizes the annual FIBA 3X3 World Tour.

The tournament is divided into 2 categories – the 15 years old and under and the 12 years old and under, and will be played on a half-court with one basket. Each team consists of at least 3 players and 1 substitute. The game is set for a single period of 10 minutes with sudden death at 21 points. The first team to score 21 or makes the most points by the end of the game period wins. If the teams are tied, overtime will be played with a free throw shoot-out.

The prizes at stake are as follows: Team Trophy, Medals plus P10,000 for 1st place, P6,000 for 2nd place, P3,000 for 3rd place and P1,000 for 4th place.

Lending their support to the tournament were star cagers and BEST Center graduates Ateneo King Eagle Kiefer Ravena, PBA Legend Jerry Codiñera and PBA player Chris Tiu of Rain or Shine, who also gave a motivational speech to the players.

BEST Center was established way back in 1978 by former national coach Nicanor “Nic” Jorge. It aims to teach students the fundamentals of basketball and volleyball in a scientific way making it the premiere school for the said sports. In addition, it also aims to develop positive values such as discipline, sportsmanship and camaraderie through their interaction with instructors and classmates.
