Before I’ve been an avid Samsung user, almost all my gadgets are Samsung specially my mobile phone and mirrorless camera. I always liked how their gadgets can fulfill what I needed specially in taking photos. As a mom I always documents the things about my kids specially during specially occasions and I also remember I ended up forgetting my very first Samsung DSLR camera on my kids’ school (thank God for lost and found!) Then that time also I was introduced to ASUS. I remember how mesmerised I am to their smartphone’s camera on how it can really deliver and that’s the time I had a change of heart.
For this battle of smartphone camera, you’ll see a side by side photo comparison of the two, let’s start! (L: ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro R: Samsung S8)
ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro uses 16 MP, 26mm, EIS (gyro), phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash on its primary camera while Samsung S8 uses 12 MP, f/1.7, 26mm, phase detection autofocus, OIS, LED flash on their primary camera. As for the front camera ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is a Dual 12 MP (f/1.8, 25mm, 1/2.55″ sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size) + 8 MP (12mm), LED flash, 2160p, panorama, HDR while Samsung S8 is using a 8 MP, f/1.7, autofocus, 1440p@30fps, dual video call, Auto HDR.
(L: ASUS R: Samsung) Both photos are taken using the Auto Mode with the same ambiance (a bit cloudy that day) and using HDR. You’ll see that Samsung has a much more yellow or orange-gy tone than ASUS who has a much realistic color, though not so vivid. When you try to look closely or zoom it in you’ll see its a bit grainy.
This is also taken with the same ambiance and mode as above. Have you noticed how zoomed the photo of Samsung S8? This was not cropped, they are taken on the same height.
Sample of low light ambiance on ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro and Samsung S8. I have a hard time focusing the ZenFone 4 Selfie that the Samsung S8. This is also taken using Auto Mode and HDR in low light.
Sample selfie of both brands, this is also taken in a low light ambiance without any beautification. Look how my daughter’s face lighten up on ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro while on S8 it give a much natural tone on her skin. By the way my daughter’s complexion is on white/yellowish tone which gives the ZenFone 4 Selfie a much closer take on her skin.
Both phones have different specifications to offer and they also have different prices the new ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is P18,995 and Samsung S8 is P39,990. They both have different category as Samsung is not mid-range phone like the ZF4 Selfie Pro and I think is too costly for people who wants to invest on a smart phone which they’ll use as a camera also. Price wise we’ll go with ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro so as the camera, I think they can still improve it. ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro still wins for us!
